Glasses Malone Recruits Ice-T, Snoop Dogg + Ty Dolla $ign To Restore Gangsta Rap’s Essence

As far as gangsta rap’s origins goes, Ice-T’s 1986 classic single “6 in the Mornin’” remains one of the few tracks with claims to the genre’s origin.

Which is why Los Angeles rap stalwart Glasses Malone is aiming to restore the OG feeling by recruiting the OG’s Ice-T and Snoop Dogg alongside himself and Ty Dolla $ign for a “GMX” on Final Level’s “6 in the Mornin’.”

Glasses Malone spoke to HipHopDX about the song as he preps a reimagined version of his 2012 project, Glasshouse.

“Now that the opportunity is prevalent and these legends are open to work, shit, I still see their value; I don’t need anyone else to see it,” Glasses Malone explained on working with the musicians that directly impacted his artistry.

“To share studio time with Snoop and Ice-T, obviously if you’re in Hip Hop, it doesn’t get no royal than that. Especially when it comes to West Coast Hip Hop. There’s no higher royalty than having Ice-T and Snoop Dogg on the track. It’s God and Jesus of Gangsta Rap!”

In Netflix’s acclaimed documentary Hip Hop Evolution, Ice-T explained the song’s creation as being the viewpoint for living in the Los Angeles streets and got co-signs from the likes of Ice Cube, Kurupt and MC Eiht.
