“Watch The Party Die” Is The Message We’ve Needed [Op-Ed]

Welp, here we are again. Kendrick Lamar dropped “Watch The Party Die” and everyone has something to say. However, per the usual, most of those that are speaking are missing his points. His many, many, MANY points.

By doing this, they still don’t see that they are simply proving what he says to be accurate. (I implore you to listen to it and go through line by line to see what I mean.)Culture Vultures are big mad at him and they’re swarming something serious right now. They can’t exist in a world where they keep getting called out. That’s just keeping it a funky buck.

Kung Fu Kenny is kicking fact after brutal fact and the punch drunk CV’s are all punched out. They profit off The Culture’s downfall, so anytime someone stands up for The Culture, they make it their business to topple the brave and enlightened. But this good kid from a mad city shall not be moved. Sucks for them because it seems as though K. has drawn a line in the sand and he’s speaking loudly what many of us vent about privately or quietly with no sign of a reprieve.

It takes kahunas the size of the rock of Gibraltar to play in the faces of the empowered with zero regard for the potential repercussions. This is yet another reason that “Watch The Party Die” is a beast. Kendrick doesn’t care about the industry. He lyrically falls on his sword and steps up for the community. That’s something the majority of the fools who think they’re winning in the game could nor would ever do.

So, I say, “Hell Yeah” to Mr. Morale. In fact, shouts to all those colleagues of mine who have done their level best not to compromise their moral compasses in this game across the board. Who does that list include you ask? I’ll tell you.Respect to; Dart Adams, Alvin Blanco, Jerry Barrow, Kwame, Miles Marshall Lewis, Davey D, Lil Ronnie, Sway and Tech, Kxng Crooked, Eclipse, Mr. Len, Jay Quan, Masta Ace, Chaundon, Little Brother, Hex, House Shoes, Headkrack, Digga, TyRaId, Bishop Lamont, Pete Rock, Just Blaze, Melly Mel, Bodega Brovas, Audible Doctor, Legs, BDK, Rakim, Chuck D, Black Nailz, Antwan Carr, Quibian Salazar- Moreno, Skoob, Yan Searcy, Troy, Mecca, Soul Khan, PMD, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Diamond D, Buckwild, Rob Markman, Kemba, Black Thought, Craig G, J-Live, Natalie Crue, LOTUG, DMC, Doug E, Dee-1, Jasiri, Malik Yusef, Lacrae and yes even the owner of Boom Bap Nation for going the extra mile and remembering the culture and the community of Hip Hop as they’ve moved throughout their careers.

They’ve fought ethical battles most folks know absolutely nothing about. Actually, some of them fought right along side me. So I know it’s real. (Obviously there are a kabillon others I’d like to name but I don’t have your attention for long enough to do so. Just know more exist!)

Kendrick does not fight alone. There are plenty of others with battle scars that seem more like purposeful tattoos that were garnered by trying to do the right thing in a realm that wants us to do anything but. Bottom line, being the voice of reason is hard. Walking the line you talk is even harder.

“Watch The Party Die” is further proof that KL’s pen is just as mighty as the sword he falls on. So there’s no need to worry about him. We see the talent and ability is completely in tact. That alone should let us know at the end of this battle that he’s got this and he’s gonna be Alright.
