Pittsburgh native and renowned Emcee J. Sands, known for his work with the group Lone Catalysts, has just released the highly anticipated music video for his track “Cash Flow, Buddha & Shelter,” the title song from his recent album. Featuring the legendary DJ Rob Swift of the The X-Ecutioners and produced by Kulya Beats, the track incorporates a sample of Nas’ iconic “New York State of Mind.” Directed by J. Sands, the video captures the essence of the song’s message, taking viewers on a journey through various locations, including Maryland, Las Vegas, and Florida, capturing him on the golf course, and at home.
In addition to his music release, J. Sands gave back to his community by hosting a free J. Sands Youth Fundamental Baseball Clinic for youth 15 and younger at Josh Gibson Field, 2217 Bedford Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, on Sunday, October 6. The clinic, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., it was designed for young players of all skill levels. Former Duquesne University head coach Mike Wilson lead the clinic, with Sands and others assisting with drills. The event featured a Home Run Derby with a cash prize and provide lunch for participants.
J. Sands, who was a first-team conference selection in high school as a center fielder and led his team in RBIs during his senior year, went on to play baseball and football at the University of Cincinnati. His father, a former Negro League player, joined the Indianapolis Clowns shortly after high school and later played in the Dodgers’ minor league system. “Baseball was king when I was growing up in Pittsburgh, and I want to share that love with the next generation,” said Sands.
J. Sands is a pivotal figure in hip hop, known for his work as a producer, label owner, and half of the influential duo Lone Catalysts. Originating from Pittsburgh and now based in Maryland, he began his musical journey in 1992 with DJ and producer J. Rawls. Their collaboration birthed the Lone Catalysts, which became part of the Wanna Be Crew collective in Ohio alongside notable acts like Reflection Eternal.
The duo gained traction in the mid-’90s, leading to the establishment of B.U.K.A. Entertainment and the release of their first record, “Paper Chase” in 1998. Their debut album, “Hip Hop,” came out in 2001 and received acclaim from major music publications such as The Source, XXL, and Vibe.
In addition to his work with Lone Catalysts, Sands has pursued a successful solo career, performing internationally in Japan and Europe. His collaborative spirit has led him to work with artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, El Da Sensei, and J-Live, solidifying his reputation in the hip hop community. As the CEO of B.U.K.A.
