Cheff Chop (f/k/a Chop Clark) provides a dope double-dose of new music and visuals with “Stay Woke/Khaleif,” a two-part video featuring a preview of his latest tracks.
The two parts of the video were shot by Vicuals, edited by Digital 5 Designs, and directed by Chop’s own Chopworks Media. This provides a throughline of consistency with the visuals, which perfectly reflect Chop’s lyrics and tone as they transition from night in “Stay Woke” to daytime with “Khaleif.” At the same time, both parts of the video capture the claustrophobic feeling of living in a city, surrounded by nothing but steel and concrete.
Lyrically, Chop is at the top of his game on these tracks. “Stay Woke” features the emcee at his most fired up as he lyrically decimates corrupt government officials. And with “Khaleif,” there’s a similar frustration, but it’s much more personal. Even better, the full versions of both singles include features from some heavy-hitters in hip-hop—Chris Rivers and Sadat X appear on “Stay Woke” while Smif-N-Wessun features on “Khaleif.”
“Stay Woke” is available now through all major streaming platforms, and you can expect to hear the full version of “Khaleif” very soon, which will be accompanied with an updated video featuring both Tek and Steele (Smif-N-Wessun). Chop’s new album, Best Laid Plans, is due out later this year via his own Chopworks Media label.
