Dirty Needles returns with Pens x Needles, a raw, unapologetic Hip Hop album built on technique, discipline, and intent. Released January 27 on Bandcamp and February 3 on all DSPs, the project draws inspiration from Hell on Earth by Mobb Deep, channeling its dark, moody atmosphere through sharp lyricism and gritty production.
The album is primarily produced by Reese Tanaka, with DJ GlibStylez and Kollectiv each contributing two tracks. Guest appearances from Planet Asia, Daphya, J. Roberts, and Ansolu reinforce the project’s underground foundation and emphasis on craft.
Pens x Needles marks a clear departure from Dirty Needles’ previous release, Happy Accidents, which leaned more radio friendly. This time, the focus is colder and more focused, aiming for a 1995-era feel rooted in substance over accessibility.
The album’s also Influenced by Pendulum Ink, and is written from the perspective of a student of the craft, applying learned techniques directly to the music. The title Pens x Needles is a play on Dirty Needles’ name and the tools used to create the project, underscoring the album’s core idea: words sharpened through study and intent.
his is Hip Hop stripped of excess; it’s dark, deliberate, and unconcerned with trends.
