Eminem’s signing Westside Boogie has gone through a big change in the two years since he released his debut album, opting to change his name from simply “Boogie” that will separate him from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie when people go to search for him. Now, he’s ready to return with new music under his revised moniker.
On Tuesday evening (May 11), the Compton-bred rapper took to Instagram to share a photo of himself in the studio with Eminem after making the trip to Detroit to play him his new album. Thankfully for him, the Shady Records co-founder gave his approval.
“Just played my music for this random dude in Detroit,” he wrote in the caption. “He just gave me the green light.”
In May 2020, Westside Boogie spoke to HotNewHipHop about his relationship with Eminem and his assistance with his upcoming album.
“When we talk it’s regular, he’s like a regular person,” he said. “But when he calls, somebody else calls first and then they’ll be like, ‘Marshall’s on the phone,’ and I feel like I’m about to talk to my teacher or something.”
He added, “What makes it great about him is he just lets me grow as an artist and let me do what I gotta do. If I need something from him I can always reach out. As far as my work I don’t really want other people influencing my ideas, I wanna get my own thoughts off, I don’t really involve too many people honestly.”
Eminem’s collaboration with the 31-year-old, “Rainy Days,” has over 31 million views on YouTube.
Westside Boogie released his debut album Everythings for Sale in January 2019 after signing to Shady Records in October 2017. The project featured Em, 6LACK, JID and Snoh Aalegra, and debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard 200 chart with roughly 18,397 album-equivalent units sold in its first week.
Over the course of 2021, Boogie been dropping freestyles over songs such as 2Pac’s “Do 4 Love” and CJ’s “Whoopty” on his YouTube channel. Managed by LVRN, he most recently took part in the company’s cypher for Spotify’s RapCaviar alongside 6LACK, BRS Kash, NoonieVsEverybody and OMB Bloodbath — watch it below.
