Spanglish Boom-Bap triumvirate Grupo HNE (pronounced Henny) have dropped new visuals for recent single “The Palmetto” this morning. Sub-titled “A musical ode to Miami’s traffic nightmare,” The Palmetto refers to State Route 826, also known as The Palmetto Expressway. DJ Exes says of the track “was written from the perspective of the average Miamian on their way home after a 40-hour work week right into permanent gridlock and road chaos. It’s enough to drive any sane man mad!”
Directed by MrBeleaf and co-directed by Cuban emcee, Orion (who also appears on the track) the breezy easy jazz and uplifting instrumental contrasts with the bars of frustration and the video’s homage to 90’s classic cinema gem, Falling Down.

In addition to DJ Exes (who serves at the group’s emcee) Grupo HNE is composed of Producer DJ Heron and multi-instrumentalist Nando (percussion, keyboards, vocals)..
DJ Heron originally from Brooklyn, cut his teeth in the early days of DJ Culture in Miami. Over the decades he has worked with / DJ’d for artists including De La Soul, Mobb Deep, Smoke DZA, KRS-ONE, The Lox and many more. Most recently he released a full-length remix album of LoLife General Thirstin Howl The 3rd classic material entitled Thirstin On Heron.
DJ Exes spent his formative years between New Jersey and Miami and is an integral member of the LoLife Miami Family. In addition to forming one of the first boom-bap morning shows in the area on Blaze 104.7 he spun at events all over the city. As an emcee he formed German Regime with DeeSoulLopez releasing two albums. More recently his Salsa Breaks series of mixtapes were instrumental in the creation of the Thirstin Howl hip-hop musical Don Chicharron.
Nando has a long and extensive relationship with music, including playing drumlines through his teen years. Through his brother he ended up meeting DJ Exes and playing live drums for a German Regime track remix. Continuing that relationship, Exes introduced Nando to Thirstin Howl The 3rd who made him a part of his live performances playing congas as well as appearing on a variety of tracks by him and the LoLife Miami Family members.
