Getting To Know Triple Threat Rapper, Artist KUMBAYA

At this juncture in Hip Hop there are many artists trying to make a breakthrough. KUMBAYA is breaking through and to the beat of her own drum, literally. She has created a style all her own in an era where rappers have become cookie cutter. “I would describe my style as being verbal drumming meets Jazz”.

KUMBAYA acknowledged that music has been a part of her life since birth. “My uncle used to produce when I was a kid. I’d be hanging around listening to things take shape. He introduced me to the MPC. Obviously, a wise man!”

KUMBAYA has a decisive spirit leading to mastery in whatever she chooses. “I’m passionate and I love to learn, nothing can stop that train!” Besides rapping and singing, KUMBAYA plays the drums, piano, and is teaching herself guitar. “I’m not reading anyone’s sheet music, but every instrument is a drum, so I always try.”

After realizing music was it, KUMBAYA dropped out of college and jumped in headfirst! There was no confusion about what she was meant to do. “I’m purebred creative and my mind is open. I’m explorative and have a vivid imagination so lyricism is a steppingstone. I look forward towards collaborative clothing design, acting, voice work, and Foley Art. I want to invest in great things and let my finances work for me!”

KUMBAYA spoke about getting creative fashion inspiration from Andre 3000. “His color palettes and silhouette’s give me creatively comforted though open and seeking more. He knows how to work within his bounds while appearing to have none.”

“I want to expand my musicality and flex creatively in spaces beyond rap. I have been multifaceted long before I could spell the word. Why stop here? I’m able, let’s do all the things!”

When it comes to who KUMBAYA would like to work with, “my collaboration list is long”. When it comes to harmonizing, “I would say my friends firstly. They are incredible! KAYTRANADA, Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar, and Gwen Bunn. I can work with almost anyone if I love the way the music makes me feel, and if they have good intentions”.

In regard to the ultimate venue KUMBAYA stated Berlin! “At the moment I’m not well traveled. I’m certain there are places waiting for me to learn of them. I have been getting encouragement from random sources to perform and create in Berlin. I don’t believe in coincidences.”

You can look for an eagerly awaited project from KUMBAYA towards the end of the year!

“I hear y’all! I’m working on it!”
