Drake Previews New Song ‘Fair Trade’ Ahead Of ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Album

Drake’s Certified Lover Boy album was set to arrive in January but he’s been continuing satisfy fans with features and an EP since it got pushed back. In the early hours of Friday morning (May 21), the 6 God provided another appetizer, taking to Instagram to share an 81-second snippet of a new song called “Fair Trade.”

Drizzy posted a video in the studio with icebergs setting the mood on a screen behind the computer. In the extensive preview, Drake plays the entire first verse and chorus, as well as the first few lines from the second verse.

“Feeling young but they treat me like the OG,” he raps. “And they want the tea on me, I swear these bitches nosy/Said he put some money on my head, I guess we gon’ see/I won’t put no money on his head, my n-ggas owe me/I gotta be single for a while, you can’t control me/Uno, dos, tres in a race they can’t hold me.”

Certified Lover Boy was originally expected to be released in January, but was delayed due to his knee injury.

Drake released his Scary Hours EP in March featuring the singles “What’s Next,” “Wants and Needs” featuring Lil Baby and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” with Rick Ross. The three songs debuted in the Top 3 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making him the first artist to dominate all three positions at the same time.

In April, he collaborated with Young Thug and Gunna on “Solid” for the YSL Records compilation album Slime Language 2. According to Gunna, the song was actually meant to appear on Certified Lover Boy.

“Drake had originally sent me the song for his album and I did it and we was vibing with it for a minute,” he said. “But then his album didn’t come out and I was still vibing with it, and I’m like ‘Shit bro, I wanna put it on Slime Language 2. Let’s put slime (Thug) on it.’ And he was like extra with it and we did, and that’s how that came together.”

Drizzy also cooked up a verse for Nicki Minaj’s “Seeing Green” single on Friday (May 14), which also featured Lil Wayne. Following its release, Minaj admitted she got “washed” on the YMCMB reunion.

“All I know is that they washed me on #SeeingGreen I’m a woman enough to admit when I’ve been washed on a track by the Greats,” she said. “And it’s ok #Barbz I’ve washed them b4. We’ll live through this one. I was still a lil rusty. I washed them in my head on #Fractions.”
